table out of paper
that’s pretty much all there is to it. in feb of 2024 i was insanely bored at work and got it into my head that i could make furniture out of paper mache. i went home and started flour pasting newspaper together. it took up the kitchen and my boyfriend got mad at me. i moved it into the spare bedroom, the living room. the apartment was too small and i made it even smaller. what’s worse, when i was ready to paint i realized it had molded inside. not enough air, no ventilation, and it had molded. i freaked out and applied for an art studio the same day. i would not have my art studio without my paper table. i was stumped on it and only worked on it when i didn’t have other stuff to work on so it took a while. i finished it at the end of the year. it is now too big to get it out of my studio but i would really love to find a place to put it on display. paper pulp and joint compound, acrylic paint, little anime dolls, and resin filled on top. inside the resin table top is a small lucky waving cat, solar eclipse glasses from 2017, diary keys, a beetle, shells, starfish, tiny mirror, blessing from a lao buddhist temple, stickers, beads, saffron bud from my savannah garden, mermaid tail pen, a small needle felted doll of myself i made during covid.
